Frequently Asked Questions

Lip Augmentation

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring gel. They are an effective injectable treatment for volumising thin lips, correcting assymetrical lips, smoothening lines around the mouth and helping to define and shape your lips. Our lip filler treatments are nurse-led to create a natural-balanced look that is sculpted, symmetrical and rejuvenated.

How can lip augmentation help me?

Lip fillers help to create fullness and shape, as well as smoothening lines around the mouth. During your consultation, we’ll work with you to create natural-looking, proportional results.

How safe are lip augmentation treatments?

Treatments with hyaluronic acid lip fillers have an excellent safety profile, they are made from completely natural hyaluronic acid, which over time, slowly dissolve, causing no harm. Worldwide, they are one of the most requested non-surgical cosmetic treatment. However, as with any medical procedure, there are certain risks and side-effects, which we will discuss with you during your consultation. It is thus important to only have your treatments performed by qualified medical professionals. At DermZen Clinic, we work with the best filler brands, that have undergone extensive safety tests, which produce predictable outcomes with minimal risks and downtime.

How much lip filler will I need?

We focus on artistically creating a natural-looking result for a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance, by adopting a ‘less is more’ approach.

How do I prepare for my appoinment?

  • Unless prescribed by your doctor, avoid taking anti-inflammatories (aspirin, neurofen, ibuprofen, naproxen), as well as Vitamin E, fish oil, St John’s Wort, Ginseng, Flaxseed, Glucosamine and Garlic supplements for a few days prior to your treatment, as these increase the risk of bruising

  • If you are prone to bruising, take arnica orally a few days before your treatment to reduce the risk

  • If you are unwell on the day of your treatment, please contact the clinic

  • If there are any changes to your medical history or medication, please inform us before recieving treatment

  • Do not plan your treatment within 2 weeks of an important social event or holiday, as this may not allow enough time for side-effects to settle, achieving the full cosmetic effect

What happens during an appointment?

We will have a consultation, going through your medical history form (which you would have completed prior to your appointment), assess your treatment area to determine if treatment is appropriate for you. We will go through the side effects specific to your treatment and costs involved, to enable you make an informed decision. Upon completion of consent, pre-treatment clinical photographs will be taken. We will gently and effectively inject your lip fillers, massaging the product to give a beautiful and natural appearance. You may need several sessions to achieve some results, as we only inject a small amount at a time. At DermZen Clinic, we use lip fillers that contain lidocaine, a numbing agent to reduce pain or discomfort during the procedure. Topical anaesthesia is also applied to enable a comfortable experience. Your skin will be cleaned and prepped for treatment. The lip filler will be gently injected via a fine needle into specific areas, and gently massaged if required to give a natural harmonious look.

Your appointment should typically last for 30 - 40 minutes depending on treatment area and product volume.
