What is Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injection used for?

Aqualyx fat dissolving treatment is used to reduce localised, stubborn pockets of subcutaneous fat deposits in areas such as: Chin, Stomach, Outer & Inner thighs, Hips, Arms, Upper back, knees. They are a less-invasive alternative to liposuction. Aqualyx contains the synthetic acid Deoxycholic, which is a secondary bile acid that is naturally produced in the liver, to help digestion of fat.

How can Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections help me?

Aqualyx fat dissolving treatments are an excellent treatment for people within one stone of their ideal weight loss solution, whom are looking to treat areas on the body with stubborn, localised fat. When injected into targetted areas, it liquefies the fat cells, permanently destroying them. It is a body contouring treatment, not a weight loss solution.

Is Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injection Treatment Safe?

Aqualyx has a strong safety record, supported by medical research. It was given a CE approval for use in the UK in 2012, which means it meets European health and safety standards. Since 2009, Aqualyx has been used in over 2 million treatments worldwide. However, as with any medical procedure, there are certain risks and side-effects, which we will discuss with you during your consultation. It is thus important to only have your treatments performed by qualified medical professionals. Aqualyx is not recommended for pregnant women or those breast feeding. It is also not recommended for people who have been diagnosed with lipodystrophy, type 1 diabetes or are immunocompromised.

How do I prepare for my appoinment?

  • Unless prescribed by your doctor, avoid taking anti-inflammatories (aspirin, neurofen, ibuprofen, naproxen) for a few days prior to your treatment, as these increase the risk of bruising

  • If you are prone to bruising, you may take arnica orally a few days before your treatment to reduce the risk

  • If you are unwell on the day of your treatment, please contact the clinic

  • If there are any changes to your medical history or medication, please inform us before recieving treatment

  • Do not plan your treatment within 2 weeks of an important social event or holiday, as this may not allow enough time for side-effects to settle

What happens during an appointment?

You will have a consultation, measurements and discussion of your expectations to determine if you are suitable for treatment. Your skin will be cleaned, prepped and marked out. The Aqualyx solution will be administered in small units all over the targetted area. Your treatment area will be massaged and aftercare advice will be provided to you.

How long do Aqualyx treatments take?

Depending on the number of treatment areas, your appointment should typically last for 30-45 minutes.

How long will my results last?

You will require 2 or 3 treatments 4 weeks apart, with visible results after the second treatment session. Results of Aqualyx fat dissolving injection treatments are permanent as long as you maintain a constant weight measurement. A healthy lifestyle is essential to maintain results.

Are there any risks related to Aqualyx?

Aqualyx is a non-invasive treatment. People treated with Aqualyx will typically experience minimal side effects when compared to more invasive procedures, such as liposuction. To date, no major side effects have been reported by the manufacturers. There is likely to be; Injection site erythema, Tenderness, Numbness, Oedema/Swelling, Bruising, Burning or stinging sensation, which typically subside 7-10 days after treatment. In very rare cases, nodules, necrosis, abscesses, haematomas or infection may occur. Please seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of these. What is the recovery time?

Minimal downtime is associated with Aqualyx fat dissolving injection treatments, and most patients are able to return to work after an appointment. You will experience swelling and skin discolouration, some people experience bruising and tenderness, which usually lasts for 7-10 days.

How do I care for my skin afterwards?

  • Do not apply cosmetics to the treated area within a 12 hour period of treatment

  • Avoid all direct sources of heat and radiation e.g. sunlight, UV radiation and saunas

  • Avoid strenuous physical exercises/activities for 7 days

  • Keep hydrated by drinking at least 2L of water daily to help your body flush out the excess waste

  • It is important to keep a healthy diet and light exercise during the course of your treatment, as the released fatty acids are converted into additional energy, which can be stored in an alternative fat depot.

  • Keep the treatment area clean and dry

  • The skin may initially feel tender to touch, this will subside. You may gently massage the area to ease and a cold compress may be indirectly applied for short periods of time

  • Avoid smoking, as this could prevent you healing properly

  • Contact us as soon as possible, if you experience any unexpected side effect after treatment
